Committee for Trade and Customs

Chairman of the committee: Dr. Karl SEDLMEYER (Vice President Global Government Affairs, adidas)

The Trade and Customs Committee covers key political issues for the European sporting goods industry, proactively engaging in European policy formation to support its members, raising awareness of their issues and campaigning for business-positive changes to the rules and practices of international trade.

The Committee brings together experts from its member companies and national federations to engage with the European Institutions (European Council, European Commission, European Parliament, Economic and Social Committee), European organisations (retailers, consumers, unions, etc.) and international bodies (World Trade Organisation, World Customs Organisation), in order to progress the free circulation of sporting goods products both inside and outside the European Community. FESI also participates on behalf of its members in the trade and customs committee of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).

In this way FESI enables its members to keep right up to date on all European legislative or policy initiatives and to have a direct say on the issues that affect their business.

The following policy areas are just a few of those covered by the Committee:

  • Anti-dumping, surveillance and safeguard measures

  • Generalised system of preferences

  • Trade liberalisation

  • Electronic customs and product classification
